Control measures provided in this paper are the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The likely noise and vibration impacts from the construction of the High Speed 2 rail line should have been assessed, and the findings are reported in the environmental statement.<\/li>\n<li>The draft Code of Construction Practice (CoCP), at Section 13, will be the basis for the control measures that will be applied by the nominated undertaker to reduce adverse impacts and effects.<\/li>\n<li>The Noise Insulation and Temporary Re-housing Policy will be implemented alongside relevant procedures outlined in the nominated undertaker&#8217;s Community Engagement Framework, ensuring that residents understand how to communicate their concerns to the nominated undertaker and the available channels for initiating action.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<h3>HS2 Noise and Vibration Reports &amp; Noise measurement Device Requirements<\/h3>\n\t<p>Long-term noise monitoring stations and vibration reading devices are mandatorily required and need to be\u00a0placed in areas that are typical of anticipated construction noise effects on sensitive receptors (buildings near the UK HS2 rail construction), while considering access, maintenance, and power supply requirements. To monitor HS2 noise data and HS2 vibration readings efficiently and effectively, the following provisions must be adhered to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Noise monitors have been installed at a height of approximately 4 m above ground level, approximating to first-floor level, and are generally located in free-field locations to reduce the influence of reflections.<\/li>\n<li>Noise monitors should not be located in a free field, i.e., at distances less than 3.5 m from a reflecting surface other than the ground, or located at ground level 1.5 m above ground.<\/li>\n<li>The noise monitoring equipment will be compliant with the requirements for a &#8216;class 2&#8217; instrument or better as defined in BS EN 61672-1 and BS EN 61672-2, and microphones will be fitted with effective windshields. In addition, the calibration of each sound level meter will be checked and recorded at the start and end of each measurement using calibrators (Class 1) meeting the requirements of BS EN 60942 2003. If a significant drift of more than 1.0 dB is observed, the data will be treated with caution.<\/li>\n<li>The vibration monitoring equipment will be compliant with performance characteristics detailed in BS EN ISO 8041:2005.<\/li>\n<li>A range of statistical sound and vibration data will be logged continuously (over a 5-minute interval).
