What is single touch engineering?
When we talk about single touch engineering, we are referring to how many times information must be touched on its normal path from captured to shared or stored.
Single touch engineering involves being able to document, manage and track your work after only touching it a single time.
To achieve single touch engineering, you must be able to capture your work on any device so that it is entered in a digital format whether you are on site or in the office. And when you capture your information, it must be in a truly digital format, which can then be converted into your desired formats in a single click without having to re-touch or re-enter any data.
What isn't single touch engineering?
The main reason companies need to double-handle information and data is because they constantly move information between multiple static formats: word, excel, PDF and standalone apps.
They document information on a piece of paper, word doc or standalone app; they have to reconcile this data into a tracking spreadsheet; they have to move this same data into seperate spreadsheet tabs to get analytics; they have to jump back and forth between all these formats while also managing and updating the original word template.
Static traditional formats result in the need to constantly shift data between formats, resulting in multiple and constant touches and re-touches.
How can you move towards single touch engineering?
Moving away from double-handling data to single touch engineering isn't very hard.
Companies have their existing manual processes converted into the single touch digital format in days - and then begin using the system to streamline their processes instantly.
