Hazardous chemicals are just one of the many safety hazards regularly encountered in industrial workplaces and sites - but they are one of the ones which when monitored and handled properly can be largely mitigated and nullified.

One of the surest mechanisms for keeping hazardous chemicals stored and dealt with correctly is the hazardous chemical register.

A hazardous chemical register is a list of all of the hazardous chemicals used, handled or stored at your workplace. You must keep a current and updated chemical register, and store it along with your safety data sheet - and make sure they are always accessible to workers.

This register is intended for hazardous chemicals only. Chemicals not classified 'hazardous' do not require SDS's and therefore don't belong in this register.

How do you know if a chemical is hazardous?

The label of the product includes:

• Diamond-shaped warning pictograms
• Danger or Warning written on the label
• Hazard or precautionary statements about protection or hazards if swallowed etc.
• Risk or safety phrases on the label
